CyberSnow

I've been working on this illustration on and off since like September. Took a break for several months actually, but started on it again recently.

It began as a figure study from a photo I found on deviantart.

Then I started trying a few different looks for a robot leg. I was super obsessed with game Transistor at the time... still am.

Started working on her skirt, and decided I wanted the challenge of adding a pattern to the petticoat.

I tried hand drawing the pattern but recently I thought of trying to model the frill in Maya and adding the pattern that way with a texture. It will also give me more options if I want to change it for a more difficult pattern. I've just started the modeling of it here.

In other news:

I got 4th in the design contest I posted about last time. Wooh!

And I'm working currently animating another Kreo Joe short, still pretty goofy, but a lot more fight action movement which is a newer challenge to deal with.

It may look rough but I spent a lot of my time researching and concepting. I didn't really have a lot of time either as I found out about it rather late. But it was a fun side project. Here are some of the rough concepts I discarded or redid along the way.

I like bows.

In other news:

I'm back to working on stuff for the language school now (although slowly on the count of everyone around me busy moving and doing finals).

Finished up a bunch of work with last month that was done on super rush using a program I learned during the process: Adobe Edge Animate. Edge is a bit glitchy and stiff to use compared to After Effects so I don't super look forward to using it again but it works with html so it might have some interesting new avenues of work for me.

And I'm working on another 3D printing project which is really really on the DL so I'm not sure when, if ever it will get anywhere but its a fun experience that hasn't taken a lot of time yet.

Sketchbook Dump

Broke my keyboard so not much description right now. I finished filling my last sketchbook and these are some of the last doodles.

In other news: Did some concept work late last month that I will be posting about soon. Still finishing up Christmas presents (went way over board this year). Working on animation for work. Might do some water color for some illustration work the next couple of months.

Companion Cube-bot and Sketches

This is just some sketching I did while watching my friends game at Fantasy Flight. The main drawing is if a robot version of a companion cube in Portal. The rabbit was drawn by my friend Ed. The hand and guy with ponytail were drawn from observation. (I always need to practice hands and feet especially.) The others are just sort of random stuff without any thought really.

Still haven't set up my scanner, so the quality is kind of crap. :/ I will try to alternate posts with sketches and Language Sprout work to try to make things more interesting. I haven't really gotten to do much other work lately. I guess that's the negative of having a desktop over a laptop.

Oh and my website has been updated with my newer illustration work from Language Sprout now.  http://katrick.wordpress.com/illustration/

Doodlings

I may have let my freetime get away from me a bit this summer. Woops. I have lots of illustration stuff to post from Language sprout and I've finished off another sketchbook that I might scan some stuff and put on. Also, I moved.

For today, here's just some doodling I did last month between moving stuff in. Wasn't really thinking, just needed to draw something and not use my feet. I think I was listening to The Used and Mindless Self Indulgence at the time... maybe some The Faint too.

Today I'm trying to update my website portfolio and some other career networking site portfolios I haven't needed to check on in a while. Hopefully I can stay on track and get more posts on here soon though.

Monster Body Parts

I've been neglecting this blog for a couple months so I'm gonna try to do a bunch of posts the next couple days showing some of the stuff I've been working on.

For the last 3 months or so I've been working for a language teaching program for small children called Language Sprout. I started by illustrating a bunch of vocabulary words for them to use in various ways. The first section of which was body parts and physical descriptions. I did 37. For these vocabulary illustrations they wanted me to work with a theme of monsters. I love horror movies so this was probably my favorite paid thing I've worked on for a while.

Here's some of the reject sketches and art:

Big
Even before I watched Hannibal I loved the idea of antlers on things. A bit inspired by Where the Wild Things Are

Big
Big had a lot of changes. Its hard to talk about size without comparison.

Small
It looked too much like baby Mr. Krabs.

Butt
Inspired by the devil guy in Cow and Chicken. How can anyone forget that butt?

Back
Too realistic.

Chest
My mind always go to Frankenstein's monster when I think monster.

Cute
Fairly similar to the final. Sheep + bat = Adorable in my opinion. Also bow ties are cool.

 Eyebrows

Eyes
This was the first concept I did. Too scary. Inspired by Digimon.

Eyes

Nose
Got a bit further with this one before it was axed and switched out for something more human. They were all sketched in Photoshop but finished and colored in Abobe Illustrator.

Keep an eye out for some of these vocab illustration appearing on my website soon!

I've done more vocab illustration stuff that I'll probably post more on soon. And I'm just about done illustrating and formatting a book for them.

Besides that I've been re-learning some Unity stuff and doing some basic game programming, so more on that later too.
